It's the most wonderful time of the year, the Colidays...not a typo but the Holidays in Colorado. Take a look at a holiday trip around the Denver area the weekend before Christmas and Chanukah. Day One: Friday evening brings a walk through the Denver Botanic Gardens spectacular light show, Blossoms of Light or the whimsical display at the Denver Zoo for Zoo Lights. Both are so illuminating that you need to see both, don't forget the 3 D glasses as seeing is believing. After cups of hot cocoa it is time to dine at one of the many new organic and "foodie" restaurants that have just opened in Denver...Charcoal, Linger, Bittersweet, even the names tempt the palate. Day Two: A Saturday stroll down Larimer Square with performing carolers, swags of evergreens and local shops. Stop into the French Bistro Vendome for a quick Croq or Tartare before walking up to the Denver Performing Arts Center for the Colorado Ballet Company's performance of Tschaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet or Broadway's revival of West Side Story. It makes you want "to live in America"! A quiet evening of wrapping gifts or driving through the Denver neighborhoods for to view the holiday home decorations and lights. Country Club, Morgan's District, Cheesman and Park Hill are appealing and Dickensian with tudor architecture and towering pines. Day Three: Teeing the Bow on your favorite Bronco fan and tailgating on a sunny Sunday Funday in the mile high city. Temps in Colorado can swing from 40 to 60 in one day. A Patriot win is not really a Denver loss as they had to go home to Boston and Bronco fans were soon planning a trip up the hill for fresh tracks on Monday morning. With skiing out the back door, it is easy to shut the front door on a bah humbug loss. The perfect ending to a Sunday evening with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra's sold out performance of Handel's Messiah. What city offers a weekend of world class ballet, symphony, theatre, dining, shopping, football and skiing?
