Losterity

A word that should be a word, according to Lizzie Skumick and the New York Times, is "losterity" along with "lostentatious" and "elostic".  When thinking antonymicaly, losterity is the opposite of prosperity but in thinking residentially compulsory downsizing, or losterity, is not the negative to the postive.  If this is lost in translation, reflect back on the last few years during the housing crisis.  During that time, downsizing became compulsory for many households and families.  Even the one percent did not escape the downsize trend, less vacation or second homes equals losterity.  However, losterity was not necessarily the hardship that many anticipated, in fact, it has gained a certain cache in the last year.

During the "boom" years neighborhoods such as the Highlands or the Golden Triangle were considered investments with risk.  Today, homes selling in the Highlands are pricier than a few years ago and are flying off the market.  These neighborhoods have become the new modern for the downsizer, those leaving the larger lots, larger neighborhoods and larger full size homes.
Downsizing is the new trend and it is a trend back to the city, usually in areas that have been redeveloped into chic urban communities with small plate restaurants, cozy coffee shops, petite boutiques and corner wine shops.  The trend is small, downsized with a vibe and friends of the early elostics are ready to get on board before the prices and interest rates rise.
