Where Denver Becomes Colorado Again

ShareThis
This is not really over the river and it is not your typical Grandma's house but it is in the woods and could be yours for Thanksgiving!  It is located just south of Denver, a quick drive down I-25 to the wooded setting that you dreamed of when you made the decision to become Colorado!  Escavera...where Denver becomes Colorado again.  Nestled in a landscape of native Ponderosa Pines and Gamble Oak, with rock outcroppings and dry beds of native grasses, this is the picture postcard setting.

Available and move-in ready for the holidays, 2392 Saddleback Drive is a Caribou Custom ranch style home with a raised, above ground walk-out level and it just launched to market.  This home was designed for entertaining!  It features a main floor master suite and two additional bedrooms with one having the option to convert to a main level study.  The huge great room is anchored by a floor to ceiling, two-sided stone fireplace which separates the great room from the hearth room and kitchen.  The gourmet kitchen features double ovens, double sinks, slab granite, walk-in pantry, and gas range.  A Colorado feel with designer knotty alder cabinets, baseboards and doors and custom wooden plantation shutters by Alpine Shutters, electric cord pulls by Hunter Douglas, along with the many upgrades in built-in shelving, custom padded hearth cushions for all 4 fireplaces and a custom wood design element table adding to the exceptional value of this home.

Two covered decks enhance the exterior experience with a custom staircase leading to a large dog run and exterior fencing that distinguishes the property from the dedicated open space beyond.  The raised lower deck provides a mountain oasis, both decks have built-in storage for seasonal items.  The professionally landscaped front lawn leads to a columned front porch, the perfect setting for giving thanks in the Adirondack chairs or porch swing.  A three car garage, with a newly finished floor coating and a Colorado Space System wall for storage and organization with cabinets and a workbench. The new Class 4 Owens and Corning Duration Impact Resistant weather guard technoloy roof was installed in August of 2016 and carries a lifetime warranty.  A radon mitigation system was recently installed along with professional child-proofing of all cabinets, drawers, latches and outlets.  Also included are wood and metal counter armchair/stools in the kitchen and an onyx and wrought iron pedestal sink in the powder room.

Did I mention that this home has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms?   There is a bonus room in the walk-out level with endless possibilities for an exercise room, study room or theatre room.  A perfect home for entertaining, either a large family or for many guests that will want to experience this Colorado lifestyle.  This home is a must see now!
Priced aggressively at $1,099,000, just $182 per finished square feet and available for immediate occupancy.

Now is the time to make a change and live the good life!

Coolest Homes In Town

ShareThis
Mile Hi Modern, The Coolest Homes In Town and the Hilltop Squad launch a mid-century revival to market this week....too cool to keep quiet!

The home was redesigned by Scott Parket of Nest Architectural Design in 2006 with interiors by Mikail Dantes.  This home is show-stopping mega magazine material and indeed has been featured as the home of the year in Colorado Homes and Lifestyles.

The home's floor to ceiling windows allow clear views of the seductive courtyards around the perimeter.  The 17 foot ceilings in the dining room, with clerestory windows, add vault and elegance.  Ebonized oak floors, Lefroy Brooks modern bath fixtures and customized lighting by Jonathan Browning and Barbara Barry.  The one original feature in the home is the wood burning fireplace in the living room with a new limestone surround.

The sleek and simplified but elegant quality of this home is the perfect answer for the buyer desiring to "right-size"!  Buyers leaving large estate quality homes in the Villages such as Castle Pines or Cherry Hills, are willing to give up volumes of square footage and acres of landscaping if their lifestyle quality is maintained.  Many of the urban choices reduce the square footage by eliminating lifestyle conveniences such as large closets, pantries, spacious utility rooms and entry ways.  Downsizing is not a synonym for eliminating, this architect and designer got it right with the  grand entertaining spaces and the living spaces for everyday.  It is a must see!

Very little is needed to make a happy life.  Contact me to guide you on the path to the lifestyle you deserve.  I specialize in lifestyle change and life transitions.  Now is the time to make the change and live the good life.

Be Prepared To Be Amazed

ShareThis
Modernism, the new concept in today's new home build...right?

Well, no.  Modernism dates back to the early part of the century, the last century.  There is a beyond interesting article in Sunday's New York Times, "On The Bauhaus Trail" by Charly Wilder.  It is a chronology and literary tour of the modernist movement, the Bauhaus movement, highlighting founders Walter Gropius and Mies Van der Rohe.  Caught my eye since there is an homage to Walter Gropius in my Cherry Creek townhome.  The article highlights the Bauhaus movement in various spots of Germany, beginning with the Bauhaus building in Dessau.  It is amazing that so many structures, museums and craft pieces survived the reign of the Third Reich and the exodus of the designers from Germany around 1933.

I was not prepared to be amazed when I began reading this article, but I finished...amazed!  I did not know that the first pre-fab kitchen was designed by an Austrian in 1926. Schutte Lihotoky was a designer within the Bauhaus movement and designed the Frankfurt kitchen, a built-in kitchen consisting of built-in kitchen cabinets, counters and slots for appliances.  European kitchens, and American kitchens in the early 20th century had free standing cupboards for pantry items, dishes and cutlery.  Having a cupboard attached to the wall was, for lack of a better term.. modern!  That portion of the modern movement got legs and of course, post WWII, all the new homes built had built in kitchens!

The Bauhaus modern movement's motto was "Light, Air and Sun", which is why the homes designed by the architects, craftsmen and designers were mainly built with a flat roof and white facade...this is the 1920's people!  Now in the almost 2020's and trending now,  this style of design in new builds has surged in all cities, especially Denver!  Samplings are sprinkled in older neighborhoods from Sloans to Cherry Creek     North.

Some of the other amazing facts gleaned from this great article are the designs by Walter Gropius in the art marries technology field in 1923.  Gropius designed the tubular lighting system and the levered door handle, something we touch everyday!  Gropius did not establish a patent on either and had to escape Germany.  Walter Gropius left Europe and to our benefit landed at Harvard, Mies van der Rohe escaped as well and migrated to Chicago! Thus the world became modern!

If you would like to visit some of the new, new modern builds in and around Denver contact me!  As part of the Mile Hi Modern Team, we have plenty of modern homes to tour.

Give Chance A Chance

ShareThis
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.  Giving chance a chance will change perspective.
Examples are plenty, and easy to find during the extended coverage of athletes in the Olympics.  Mixing things up is common with elite athletes and change is not uncommon...change in venue, change in coaching, change in attitude.  Same holds true in the business of buying or selling real estate, change the way you look at things...the things you look at change.

If a property is holding on the market, the property and the marketing needs  "mix it up" momentum.  This theory is true on the buyer side too, if buyers cannot find a property, neighborhood or property within a certain neighborhood, the buyer needs to "mix it up"....choose a different park bench to sit on, maybe that will be the change needed.  Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.  This is giving chance a chance and it will kick start the doldrums of a late summer real estate market.

I work with a plan of simple execution, I focus on what will sell.  That premise brings focus to the marketing plan for sellers and allows buyers an insight into markets that are within my specialization.  If I don't specialize in your market, I have plenty of team members that have that specialization.
This is giving chance a chance.  Change your vision, change your direction.

Halcyon

The newest addition to the Cherry Creek North neighborhood is the Halcyon Hotel, completion and grand opening within days.  Interesting that a hotel built in 2016 bears the name Halcyon which suggests a period of time in the past with everything blissful, joyful and carefree.  But how clever the name and even more clever that some of the amenities within the hotel will reminisce the halcyon days.  Trending at the Halcyon are  long playing record players in the guest rooms and true concierge hosts.  Wow, the guests may even dress up for this hotel...what a concept!

This is the first hotel built in Denver's tony Cherry Creek North neighborhood in over a decade, the timing is spot on!
I would book immediately but I live and work a block from the
entrance!  Stop by Mile Hi Modern at 255 Clayton and we can see and be seen at the Halcyon!

Mountain Modern

The Aspen Idea  is a true "modern" forward thinking idea, and, it was developed in 1949!  I was developed in 1949, my license plate is ZG (the original Aspen plate)!

Walter Paepcke formed a think tank of modernist thinkers, scientists, artists, academics and musicians and created what is now the Aspen Music Festival and Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies.  It is still growing, still modern and still strong.

They enlisted Eero Saarinen, you know him...even sat in his chairs!  Saarinen designed the first tent in 1949, later to be replaced by a more permanent structure by the beloved Aspenite Fritz Benedict, along Casttle Creek Road in 1965,  Mid-century modern at its peak.  Now the twenty-three acre campus, with the new completion of the Buchsbaum totally modern structure under the guidance of architect Harry Teague, is the command central for international students, musicians, colleagues, and in general great minds.  Teague also designed the Benedict Tent right in the heart of Aspen where music meets nature.

Aspen also boasts two major art museums, the Aspen Art Museum designed by Shigeru Ban and the Powers Art Center, a private museum housing a massive collection of Jasper Johns, in nearby Carbondale, designed by Hiroshi Manamori.

But hold on, you say, Aspen is a mining town turned rock star see and ski to be seen mecca.  Yes...and, no!

Aspen has long been on the cutting edge for cities in Colorado engaging in classic modern design, probably running a close second to the Flagstaff area of West Boulder.  It is amazing what can happen to a city or town or community when the citizens engage in recognized architects of pedigree.

For more information on Aspen, the Aspen Music Festival featuring a provocative menu of Russian and Eastern European composers, from Tschaikovsky and Shostakovich to Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert with symphonys that resonate political turmoil of their time in world history.  They were modernists for the generations.

There is still plenty of August left!  Get to Aspen for the beauty of the Colorado Rocky Mountain High,  the modern architecture and the music, food and thoughts;  oh, and the real estate!   Contact me for more information on what to do in August in Denver and Aspen!

Dolce Vita Denver

Ahhh... eating a Palisade, Colorado peach, listening to Spotify from my live/work place of happy...a bit of the sweet life!

Denver is known for craft beer and high altitude breathing, but once the end of July appears on the calendar the Farmer's Markets abound in the area.  To enjoy the peaches from the Western slope, field grown tomatoes from Longmont, cantalope from Rocky Ford and fresh corn from Olathe check out these markets.

Cherry Creek hosts a Wednesday and Saturday morning Farmer's Market, Sunday is the day for South Pearl Street and City Park Esplanade Fresh Markets.  Stapleton added a new market for Thursday and the regular Sunday market.  There are also markets in Broomfield, Westminster, Boulder and Castle Rock!  Who knew?  We did of course, well we of the Mile Hi Modern Team.
